Gill had PRK photorefractive keratectomy

Today Gill went down to the Lasik MD Vision eye center here in Ottawa and had her photorefractive keratectomy better known as PRK. We went down to the lasik eye center at 9 am and were there until roughly 1 pm. Most of that time was spent waiting and consulting with the optometrists and the assistant to dr Agapitos.
SO it all goes is like this.
1.) You go for your assessment where they look at your eyeballs and do a topography map to determine if you're a good candidate for the lasik procedure. During this process you're given an eye exam.
2.) The optometrist goes over the results of the exam with you and shows you your topography and explains what is going to happen and how the Lasik or in Gills case how the photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) procedure works. What happened with gill is that the optometrist took her results to the doctor and then came back with her having to do the prk because her cornea was too thin to do the Lasik procedure.
3.) You meet with the assistants and they explain the procedure to you and go over the eye drops you'll be given according to which procedure you'll be doing.
4.) Then you wait some more.
5.) You get the procedure. Takes all of 10 minutes. Seriously thats all it takes and according to gill she spent more time in the operating room waiting for the doctor to calibrate his laser than she did actually under the laser.
6.) you get out and put on some dark shades, you meet the assistant again she handles any questions and explains the drops and post op eye care once again.
7.) You go have a seat for an hour and then see the optometrist once again for a send home exam and off you go with new eyesight and a considerable amount of discomfort.

Gill describes the eye discomfort after the PRK as having acid being poured in your eyes.

But she said after walking walking out onto the street WOW I can See!!
So yes Lasik eye surgery is just like you hear in the commercials

Ok it's common knowledge that we all have some fear, of one sort or another. Real or imagined we all have fears.
For instance I have 2 fairly irrational fears, fear of heights, I think that if i am on a balcony in a building that I am going to spontaneously fly out over the edge and plunge to my death. Seriously I have this bizarre gut feeling that I am just going to somehow fling off into space, weird HUH.
Then there's The fear of flying(more fear of falling out of the sky in a plane one fire - but that's another story) and electricity, well more getting electrocuted. Ok that was 3.

So I figured I'd layout some of the more common fobias here.

Facebook to be shut down due to 4 yr old lawsuit

Recently theres been some buzz about the feed lines about the facebook lawsuit apparently this "lawsuit" is like 4 yrs old. Man alot has happened with the founder Mark Zuckerberg since that time. The rumor mill has it that its going to be shutdown until the dust settles
Heres how it all began:

Before he launched Facebook at Harvard, Mark Zuckerberg worked for two brothers on a project called HarvardConnect.com that also wanted to connect students and alumni. you can get the full story on that little dirty trick from Venture Beat (the lawsuit that wouldn't go away)

The lawsuit as I mentioned goes back 4 years. Because of a joint venture project that went the wrong way. The project that Zuckerberg and his partners were working was called ConnectU.

ConnectU.com, which was started by twin brothers Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra, has accused thefacebook.com founder Mark Zuckerberg of basing his site on their original project. The suit was filed Sept. 2 in a Massachusetts federal court.

As a sophomore at Harvard University, Zuckerberg wrote the code for ConnectU.com, formerly a project by the student founders called HarvardConnection.com.

"Basically, the idea behind the Web site, the original aspect, bringing social networking to the college level at various (campuses) ... that's what he took while claiming to do work for us," said Narendra, who graduated with his fellow founders last spring. And finally some judge is trying to call it quits between the Hatfield and McCoys. Come on boy just kiss and make up or at least pay one another to go away.

A U.S. judge on Wednesday gave a group of former Harvard students two weeks to back up their claims that Facebook Inc.'s founder stole their ideas to create the fast-growing social networking Web site.....
U.S. District Judge Douglas Woodlock said in court the former Harvard students may be using the lawsuit as a ploy to extract a settlement from Facebook, and pressed their lawyer to produce evidence of a commercial arrangement with Zuckerberg.

"Dorm room chitchat does not make a contract, so I want to see it," Woodlock told the courtroom in Boston. Judge sets deadline in facebook lawsuit

Ok in all seriousness. Isn't this what all great moguls do. Steal other people ideas and claim the glory. Um Microsoft did. All the robber barons of the of the high rolling 80's stock market frenzy did.
So he embelished on an idea and made it better, maybe he had a bigger dream than his partners did. I'll tell you what , he sure as hell is raking in all the dough, and I'll bet when all the dust settles that this is what this pissing contest is all about.
However Facebook according to the conspiracy theorists (see my post and video on the facebook conspiracy)is pretty well connected and deeply entrenched in the establishment. Would it just be a surprise if these ex-partners of his got like abducted by aliens and were wisked away to area 51 or something stupid like that.

Star Trek has a new spock

New Star Trek movie and a new Spock

Holy cow am I excited!!! Those of you that know me know that I love Star Trek, yes I am a Trekkie. Well the news good or not depending on who you ask is that Star Trek has a new spock for their up coming new star trek movie.

(July 26,2007) at Comic-Con in San Diego, J.J. Abrams and his creative team have revealed new artwork for the second teaser poster. The lettering may be familiar -- and once again we get an Original Series look -- but this time the logo is inverted, and is written with starry letters, all on a white background. But that's not all! Confirming once again that this is a Kirk/Spock story, the casting kicks off with the announcement of Zachary Quinto as "Spock," who was joined at the presentation by the original himself, Leonard Nimoy. For the record, Nimoy will be donning the ears once more as well, confirming a storyline that would include both a young Spock and his older self.

But of course the Trek fans will be kept in the dark I suspect until release date, which looks to be in 2008, or until some insider leaks more info and perhaps a synopsis of the new movie in the web-o-sphere. But you can guess it has something to do with the old series, or will be referencing an earlier period in the star trek universe, because Zach Quinto will be playing a young spock.

While im on a rant about facebook I thought it might be funny to document Gill getting lost on facebook. She sits behind me on her laptop and talks to herself while facebooking it.
What funny about this is she has like 9 million facebook friends and I always hear her madly clicking away at the mouse. SO when I ask her what shes doing she says something along the lins of I cant find so and so or where did i see so and so. I cant find them. Too funny shes getting lost in facebook, maybe facebook should have like a google map feature to let you know where in facebook you are.

A few nights ago the little monster (our 6 year old boy Aidan) was quizzing me about insects. You know the usual interrogation you get from an inquiring 6 year old mind.
He was wanting to know what are the fastest insect s on the world (his words-not my bad grammar).
So here we have it.
The worlds fastest 4 insects.
I was pretty blown away when I looked in a few books to find these facts.

The world fastest insects in order
1.) The Dragon fly. It can zip along at 20.0 mph, 32.o km/hr
2.) The Hornet 13.39 mph, 21.5 km/hr
3.) The Horse fly 8.93 mph, 14.3 km/hr. I wouldn't have thought this was one of them, though they do freaking move like the wind when you try to KILL them because they bite Hard and leave huge welts on your ankles. I'm quite convinced that they live in the bottom of canoes
4.) The Bee 11.0 mph, 18.0 km/hr

Did you know that a bee could travel 4 million miles (6.5 million km's) on the energy it it would obtain from 1 gallon (4.5 liters) of nectar.

What is lasik Eye surgery

What is lasik eye surgery.
For thos of you who don't my gillers is going under the lasik in august. So I was a litttle curious what all the hype over lasik is.

The 'lasik' in lasik eye surgery stands for Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis. Lasik eye surgery is a procedure using what is called an excimer laser, which permanently changes the shape of the cornea. The cornea is the clear covering of the front of the eye.

Before we look at the benefits lasik eye surgery, there are certain people that are not good candidates for this procedure. If you have required a change in you glasses or contact lens prescription in the last year, lasik eye surgery is probably not for you. As a rule of thumb, people that meet certain conditions are considered unqualified for lasik eye surgery. There are people in the early 20's or younger, people with diabetes, pregnant women and people taking medications that cause fluctuations in their vision.

If however, you do not fit any of the above problem groups, then this might be the best thing that ever happened to your eyes. One patient said, "After wearing contact lenses for 35 years, you can't imagine the freedom I felt". Those sentiments are echoed by most patients after lasik eye surgery.

Most common eye disorder, near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism can be corrected with laser eye surgery. The American Academy of Ophthalmology in San Francisco says that lasik eye surgery is fast becoming the most technologically advanced method available. The Food and Drug Administration first approved the excimer laser in October 1995. From then on, techniques and procedures for lasik eye surgery have been improved upon.

Lasik eye surgery is specifically used to correct near-sightedness. Other laser procedures are used to correct other vision problems. With lasik eye surgery, the skill of the physician performing the operation is crucial and critical. That is because an incision is made during the lasik eye surgery. You need to find a practitioner who has extensive training and wide experience before you choose the lasik eye surgery procedure. Approximately 80,000 lasik eye surgery procedures are performed every year and that number is growing annually.

The after-effects of their lasik eye surgery are minimal under normal conditions. The patient may be sensitive to light for a few days. Usually people go back to work in one to three days. Here is a checklist put out by the FDA if you are considering lasik eye surgery. Learn what you are getting into, find the best and most experienced doctor in your area, and fully understand the risks and benefits before you consult to the lasik eye surgery.

A flat panel monitor is really not essential for most computer applications, because, well frankly, any old monitor will do. All your really need from your computer monitor is the resolution to word process, honestly, unless you are some kind of super gamer, or perhaps an artist or graphics engineer. However, a flat panel monitor can be nice and make your computering experience more pleasant by far. First of all, it takes up much less power than a normal monitor, (also known as a crt monitor) so a flat panel monitor can greatly improve your computering experience by decreasing your electric power consumption. Second of all, there is a subtle distortion provided by normal crt monitors which you don't get with flat panel monitors. Your normal old standby crt monitor has a curved screen, and although your mind has been carefully trained to edit it out through hours and hours of fixedly staring at the computer screen, nonetheless, it does cause eyestrain which can be avoided with a flat panel monitor.

You won't really understand the difference until you try a flat panel monitor, so I suggest just trying it – read my post about my flat panel monitor your eyes will thank you, and then you will have to track me down and thank me. A flat panel monitor just has a clearer image, and that is that. It doesn't distort, and besides that, the colors are more even and there isn't the flicker of a normal monitor. You are trained to edit out the flicker too, but believe me. It is there, and you will notice the absence of it when looking at your beautiful new monitor.

Also, since so many people look at movies on their computer, if you are one of them, (and I know I am), it absolutely makes sense to buy a flat panel monitor. It just makes the image prettier, and the experience more enjoyable. Especially with the lights out, any distortion can cause vertigo and discomfort, so for your own viewing enjoyment, how can you go without a flat panel monitor.

Another reason for a flat panel monitor, although probably not the biggest reason for most of us, is that it saves space. It lacks the size of a normal monitor – not only the screen, but also the body of a flat panel monitor are flat. This means you can fit it in a smaller space, or can have more room on your desk for other things such as books or amusing office executive toys such as wheels that spin up and down ramps indefinitely.

I don't know about you but I was horrible at both of those, never could figure even why I would want to have to figure it out, go figure that one eh.

My god what have we done !!!
In our infinite wisdom and ignorance. We have started Aidan down the dark and winding path into the sub culture of the Boarders. Perhaps we should call him Aidan Boarder.
Aidan successfully completed Grade 1, apparently there was a 3 hr exam. And a 500 hundred word essay. Man the demands on Grade 1ers have gotten tougher. SO he's going to Grade 2 next year.
In his words "grade is harder because you have to to take away, adding to is EASY taking away is hard-right shane"
I'm going to guess this is some form of high level calculus or trig. Something I failed horribly.

So as a reward for his achievement we got him a skateboard. As you can tell he's quite happy about all this.
Now we're forced into learning a whole new language.
Anyone have any idea what an "olly" is or what a "kick flip" is.

1. Open up FF click into the Firefox address location bar, and type about:config , press Enter.

2. The "Config" file will appear in the Firefox browser as a page withhundreds of lines of code in it. Now, we start by enabling someadvanced tabbed options:

3. Locate the line browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs . (tip: press "b" on your keyboard to quick scroll).

4. Double click on browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs . Thiswill set its toggle to "true". Now your advanced and enhanced tabbingshould be set.

5. Next: we will increase the "pipeline" RAM ability for Firefox toaccomodate more packet transfer. In the same config document, scrolldown to the line that says network.http.pipelining . Double click thisline to set it to "true".

6. Lastly, we will increase the maximum pipeline requests to 100.Find the line that says network.http.pipelining.maxrequests . Doubleclick on it, and a dialog box will pop up. Change the setting from 4 to100.

I think it maybe a pirated version I may have gotten from someone , cant be sure on that though.

Ottawa's West Fest

This afternoon we took a trip down to Westboro for the annual West Fest Festival?, I dont know if you call it that or not.
WESTFEST, Ottawa's newest large-scale festival, is a diverse three-day celebration that includes music, visual, literary, dance, spoken word, and performance art.
Festival activities will take place on Richmond Road, between Tweedsmuir and Golden Avenues on Friday, June 8, Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, 2007. WESTFEST is FREE!

And of course snapped off a few Pictures of our little monster running wild and some others of the West in general. You know just some sights of Ottawa's westend west fest.
If you're ever in Westboro you have to check out some of the Great Murals. I took this one because well, Aidan likes Skate Boarding right now. I suspect he'll be a big time ottawa skate boarder.

Lord Help us, Greenday blasting loudly in the house. Oh well.

There's a cool little bike shop on the corner of Richmond road and Churchill, cant say I know what It's called though, anyways they have just coolest bikes.
I like this one in particular because it has a Star Bucks carrier.
What a Clever Idea HUH!!
Fitting too because there's a Star Bucks just up the road.
Whats neat about these bikes is they're so Retro.
Very 1950's with the flashy gaudy colours.

Heres another shot I was trying to get artsy with it.
I just love the tires, ya that's it I love the tires.
We were down there Oh I'd say Mid-afternoonish.
So we didn't really to get see much in the way of bands or music for that matter I'm guessing all the best bits take place Friday and Saturday night.
According to my parents thats when the livelier parts of Westfest are.
They live in Westboro, just a block up the road from the big bandshell.

Last night Gill and I were sitting talking about all the crazy-ness surrounding Facebook.
You know, we were laughing about how many people she has been able to find, either by just looking on facebook or by surfing other facebook profiles for people. Then something dawned on me.
Looking at facebook profiles and just how many people are now on facebook.
I had this crazy Idea!
I know many of you have heard the term 6 degrees of separation. SO I decided to see how it applies to facebook and life in general.
To the left is a picture of just one of my connections.
Mind you I some how doubt that the Prime Minister of Canada has a facebook profile, nor do any of the other world leaders. But it is an interesting relationship, Don't ya think.

I came across this cool video At google video.
At 611HP, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is the most powerful production car Ferrari has ever made (Ferrari has made a more powerful limited production car, the Enzo). This comprehensive 45 min documentary reveals the behind the scenes action at Ferrari’s factory in Maranello (they never let cameras in this factory or any other by the way) and gives you a look at how the new 599 is brought to life. As much as I like the new 599, I like the looks of the F430 way more.

Blogger code of conduct proposed

A prominent internet writer and the head of Wikipedia have collaborated on a set of rules designed to bring civility to the world of bloggers, which can appear to be a world of endless conversational battle.

Web pioneer Tim O'Reilly, who is often credited with coining the term Web 2.0, posted a first draft of the Bloggers Code of Conduct on his website and on wikia.com, the site run by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

The code calls on bloggers - people who write and post material in online journals called blogs - to not post "unacceptable" content and delete comments that contain abusive, harassing or threatening content.

It also calls on bloggers to say online only what they would say in person, not to allow anonymous comments, to take action to defend against unfair comments and to connect privately to resolve disputes before posting public comments.

O'Reilly called for a code after prominent blogger Kathy Sierra suspended her blog in March because of death threats on her blog and threats of violence posted on other websites.

"We celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces frank and open conversation in ways that were long missing from mainstream media and marketing-dominated corporate websites," O'Reilly first wrote on his Radar blog a week ago.

"But frankness does not have to mean lack of civility. There's no reason why we should tolerate conversations online that we wouldn't tolerate in our living room."

The draft of the code was posted on Wikia to allow readers to comment and help shape the final document through a community-edited review process similar to the way entries are edited on Wikipedia.

The code has already generated controversy on the site's discussion group over issues of censorship and enforceability of the rules, particularly O'Reilly's first rule of conduct calling on bloggers to "take responsibility for our own words and for the comments we allow on our blog."

Also at issue is the fact that examples of unacceptable content include libel, violations of privacy and confidentiality as well as copyright and trademark infringement.

"Does declaring that you will take responsibility for copyright and trademark violations open you up to more legal exposure than you would have otherwise?" wrote commenter Sethop on the Wikia discussion forum.

Another poster called Dscrimshaw suggested the code should be more flexible to allow bloggers to adopt those rules they feel suit their forum.

O'Reilly wrote that a final version of the code would eventually be posted on bloggingcode.org. Users wishing to adhere to the standard could display a badge that would link to the rules.

According to blog-indexing company Technorati, there are 74.9 million blogs on the internet.

Windows XP to be phased out by year's end FINALLY

Theres some buzz going on about this whole Windows XP being phased out over the next year. I think its about time its a piece of crap. And I dont think that vista will be any better. Im a windows user only because everything I use is built for Windows. Ive toyed with the idea of switching ti linux for some time only Im not so techy (geeky If you will). The next purchase I'll make will be a Mac.
Seems like by 08 Bill and his ghouls will be putting Vista on all new machines, what this means is no support for XP oh yay!! Like there was support for it in the first place.

From what I understand. Vista is a resource hog and has buggy driver issues. And microsfort in its infinite wisdom wants to switch whole over to THAT. Shitty news for the small business or the home user. CASH cow from the large enterprises, for Microsoft, who buys PC by truck load. It's all a big cash grab for the Vultures at Microsoft.
Remember how horrid Windows 2000 and Windows Millenium were? Microsft has a tendency to cram half baked products down the consumers throats. And they're ushering out XP and cramming Vista down our throats now. Gimme a freaking break.

I was just doing alittle research about energy savings tips for the house, and came across a horrible tip that should seriously be disregarded. The souce is from the us department of energy. Here is the link http://www1.eere.energy.gov/consumer/tips/water_heating.html

In this article they suggest that you turn down your hot water tank to 120 degrees.

DO NOT DO THIS. You run the risk of allowing the bacteria called legionnaires disease to grow in your hot water tank. Legionnaires disease Dies at basically anything above 122 degrees. See the diagram.

122 degress is the slow death range of the bacteria. In Ontario, I am not sure about the rest of Canada. The Building code by law states that any hot water tank installed must be set 140 Degrees. This high temperature Kills the Bacteria in the tank.

Please disregard any advice you read or are told about lowering the temperature of your hot water tank to anything below 140 degrees F, to save energy.

You will be placing your family at potential risk in lowering the temperature. You may have had a new hot water tank installed in the past year and were told to have a tempering valve on the tank to cool the water to 120 at delivery from your fixtures. NOT to worry. If your hot water tank is set at high 140Degrees f then you are safe and the bacteria has been killed at the tank.

Are you thinking about buying a flat panel monitor? We did and here's what we did to figure out which flat panel monitor was right for us. So I figured I'd post about how to buy a flat panel monitor.

It's actually a funny story really. First off we knew we wanted to get rid of the huge honking 19 inch monitor we had on our desk top.
Neither of us really had any idea what we should look for in a flat panel monitor, other than what our budget would allow us. SO bearing that in mind we went to our local big box stores . Future shop and best buy for a look see. And man what an education in monitors that was. We looked at LG 19 monitors and syncmaster monitors and a few other I dont remember which ones they were any longer. We finally settled on an NEC Multisync 1940wcxm its the model in the pretty picture you see there.
What attracted us to this one is it was about 40 dollars cheaper than the equivalent LG Monitor we were also looking at.
Here are its features and I'll explain why we chose this one in a few moments.

NEC MultiSync 1940WCXM - flat panel display - TFT - 19"

Description: The NEC Multisync 1940WCXM is a 19 in, flat panel computer monitor. Compared to other flat panel monitors on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $260. Comes with a built-in set of stereo speakers. Weighs 10.1 lbs.

Pros: Has 700:1 contrast ratio, which is higher than some similarly priced monitors. In fact, the typical cost of a product with this high a contrast ratio is $360. This monitor can eliminate the need to have PC speakers sitting on your desk -- just plug your PC's audio into the monitor and use the speaker that it has built in. Accepts DVI input.

Suitability: A flat panel monitor, suited for those who want a spacious thin screen monitor. The 5 ms response time of this screen makes it ideal for fast-moving games and for watching movies.

What you want to look for is at least a 600:1 contrast ratio, above that you really can't see the difference. We looked at a few of the higher contrast ratios and could see no difference in the quality of the images on the screen. So that narrowed down a few of the more expensive monitors right away. We liked the idea of having built in speakers though it wasn't a biggy because we have a great sound system for our computer. We or rather I liked the fast response time of 5ms (milliseconds) I do a bit of gaming though not a heavy gamer. Its just fast!! Hey I'm a guy and I like fast things!!
The dvi input was also important for me.
Digital Visual Interface. The DVI port provides a pure digital video signal to a digital flat-panel display or projector. Using a digital signal for the entire path maintains the image quality at the highest level, because the signal is not degraded as a result of a digital-to-analog conversion.. We watch alot of movies on our computer. So having this capability is important. And beign that the way that media industry is going digital is just better. So you definately want a DVI capable monitor.
Now heres the funny part and why we chose this monitor.
We liked the look and the above mentioned qualities and so decided NEC was the way to go. So we dragged the tech guy over to that monitor and said we want this one. Funny thing was there wasn't any boxes above or below the display model. The price was 229 which was right in the ball park we were looking to spend. SO we said we'll buy the display model (do this if you can it's cheaper) So he mumbles something about not being able to sell the display. I asked him to check with his manager, he ran off , 20 minutes later he shows up with the manager in tow. The manager tells him to disconnect it and gives us the price point of 179$! SCORE. To say we were Pleased about it was a bit of an understatement. Always pays to ask doesn't it!!!

Well it looks like gas prices are on the rise again.... Go figure. Esso has a fire at a one of their distribution centers and everyone else profiteers from it.
Yes we all know we're being ripped off.
But you would think the Government would step up to the plate and enforce the other stations to keep their prices in line.
BUT NOOOOOOOOO why would they , they're making a freeking killing of of the gas taxes we're paying them. Only to have them squander it on the latest bit of non-sense (but that's another posting for another day).
So last night on my way home the Mr Gas was flogging gas at 99.6/litre. According to ottawa gas prices.com
The highest gas price in the city is the Shell at Greenbank and Iris at a whopping 101.1/litre.
Give me a freeking break!!!

So I have a question for you:

At what price point are you just going to say enough is enough and not drive your car or gas guzzling S.U.V to work or the corner store.
I'm thinking I'm taking the bus starting next week. I'm fed up with being ripped off by the monopoly this country has on oil.

According the bloomberg.com/energy The price of a barrel is sitting at 61.64/barrel.
It's funny because for the past year I have noticed that if you add 30 to the price of the barrel you get approximately the price at the pump. Try it an you'll see that I'm not usually too far off of the mark. With the exception this past week of esso having a fire.

My god what a busy weekend we had this weekend. We spent the day on saturday trapsing around the market like vagrants, sunday was spent in the gatineaus and monday was spent stressing out over doing dinner for 10 people in our place.

Dog ate my pot err i mean home work

Yesterday while driving in to work I was listening to live885 there was one particular "new story" I found crazy amusing !!!
Turns out someone in BC had their pot eaten by their dog. Yeah thats right their dog ate their pot!!
Turns out this is quite a problem !! Dogs eating drugs and being rushed to the energency because theyre high !!
I know this sounds kind of mean. But as it turns out if your dog eats your pot you really don't have much to worry about. Just let him sleep it off or run about in a doggy hallucinating haze.
If he eats... lets say your crack on the other hand, well you have a more serious problem.
Kind of makes you wonder why there are SO MANY kinds of dog foods now doesnt it?

My girlfriend and I were reminiscing over dinner about which games we played with as kids.

I had monopoly, scrabble,trivial pursuit. And who can forget GI Joe!!.

I can't quite remember how we came to be talking about this.

Oh I think it was because My girlfriend saw an Oprah episode with the creator of Barbie.

Its crazy how some toys are timeless isnt it!!
If you think about it....What brilliant Marketing genius that went into to some of the toys, to make them the silly insane collectors items that they are. Barbie to just to name one. And I'm sure it is one of the best sellers today. Im sure there are crazy people that have them still in their wrappers as collectors items.
I'm sure if you were to check ebay you'd find ridiculous auction prices for some of our most venerable and venerated toys.

I dont really know which toys are still "in" now? Is Starbucks still selling cranium? I've played that once or twice. Good fun that is too !! How about The Rubics Cube!! Ok Im pushing 40 can you tell. I never could get anymore than 2 sides maybe 3 complete. HAHAHAHA My girlfriends boss, has a ten year old boy who can do the whole thing in like minutes flat. Shit I used to peel off the stckers and cheat !!!

Why are concert tickets so expensive now?

Can someone please explain to me why concert tickets are so damned expensive? I was going to go see the goo goo dolls then I saw the ticket prices !!! 118$ are they FREEKING NUTS.

Just about a month ago maybe longer...my girlfriend went to montreal to see madonna. She paid 250$ for tickets. I personally think thats excessive. Yeah you can justify it to yourself any number of ways its a one time thing, shes not going to be touring for a while in canada. yadda yadda yadda. I'm pretty sure this is the mindset of the promoters to and its the marketing tool that is used.

I absolutely refuse to pay those kinds of prices to see bands.
Last concert I saw was david usher his tickets were 25$ and it was a great show!!!
I think that the first time I noticed the ridiculous concert prices was about 10 years ago when sting came to ottawa his tickets were like 80 bux, then depeche mode came shortly after that. same price range. Whats the deal with that anyways? I read someplace maybe it was in a magazine. Its being called the celebrity factor, or some such non-sense. Yeah ok havent these bands always been celebrities? I personally think its the friggin internet and the download sites. My reasoning goes something like this? They figure you arent going to buy their cd's so they jack up the concert tickets to compensate. Am I off the mark here?
Take james blunt for instance. He came more or less out of no-where... and his tickets are over 200$ INSANE!!! I admit im as guilty as most others for downloading music from limewire. And maybe I am part of the problem. However if I like a band i'll buy the cd.

This post is a little belated but it is note worthy and rather entertaining. It was a friends of our birthday a while back 2weeks ago to be precise. Dan is his name and a fine fellow he is. For this prestigious event John came up from Houston. Actually john's visit and dans birthday coincided with john having to renew his passport. Ill let the photos speak for themselves needless to say it started out all well, fine and good like the responsible adults we are. Thats dan and his lovely wife chantale, At the Mekong restaurant. If you're ever in Ottawa I highly recommend going there for some great chinese eats!!
This is me and My girlfriend gill. She looks a little psycho in this photo. Cant say why though. Must be john (he's behind the lense) Oh did I mention I had a root canal done the day before. Might be why I look oh so un-impressed. Im pretty sure the tylenol 3's arent helping either. That and the red wine. Oh just a little pointer here for any of you who decide to ingest tylenol 3's DONT DRINK. Man gill looks like a freeking nut. She's going to kill me when she sees I have posted that pic of her. GREAT cleavage though baby !!! I really need to get a better camera. Not that one I have is bad. Ok it sux, yeah it sux.

Heres john and gill. They're long time friends. And some serious partners in crime. I know its a shitty picture. What can I say. It was the redwine and tylenols. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. So as you can tell so far we started out acting like "adults". You know having pleasant conversation in a quiet stable surrounding. Being very polite. Snifting the redwine and chatting about current events over dinner. Catching up on what we've been doing with ourselves or to ourselves as the case may be. Dan hadnt shown up at this point the pictures arent exactly time line accurate. I think at this point john and gill were on their second bottle of wine. I was on my second glass and feeling numb or dumb or a mix of the two.
Our next step along the yellow brick road was to Milestones. Milestones is a swanky restaurant bar across from the Chateau Laurier on sussex. nice place!! I think its the only bar in Ottawa that serves Bellini's (an adult slushy basically) We had a few drinks to fuel the already burning alcohol fire. Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that we were still rather (well rather they were) well behaved.

See !! we're all well bahaved. Dan is rooting through his blueberry or palm pilot thingy showing us (porn) or rather photos of his kids. I'm sure he's looking at porn arent you dan you nasty dirty dog. Just a little side note here on Milestones it has a great atmosphere. With stunning night views of rideau and sussex , its situated right across from the Chateau Laurier and faces the Old Ottawa train station. I should have gotten off a shot or two, not that they would have turned out any better than any of the other photos. Actually john and gill have a rather funny story about their last trip to milestones. Maybe I'll save that for another day. So we had a few drinky poo's here and then headed for the Dom ( the dominion pub) for those of you who are unfamiliar with Market speak. John's bro works there (peaches is his nic-name?) I some how doubt their mom named him peaches but thats the only name I know him by.
The Dom is a colourful Market bar for the Alternative crowd, welfare bums and young hipsters in Ottawa. It has a very unique atmosphere rooted deep in Ottawa history . I think other than the other tavern, The laff ( chateau Lafeyette) it is one of the oldest taverns in the market. I would say that it has a large student crowd (ottawa Uniersity) though all the bars are filled with the university crowd. So I may be off on this. We stopped in at the Dom for a drink or two and so john could say hi to his bro. I think John is addicted to the laff. I notice his blood pressure goes up when we spend too much time away from there and he obsessively watches his watch until we get there. Hahahaha silly fool john. It wasnt until this point that things started to go horribly astray. Well maybe they went as they were supposed to go but then again I wasnt drinking all that much so I had a vastly different view of the events as they unfolded. SO fromt he laff we fell next door into the waiting arms of the Zaphod beeble brox. Another very cool retro-sexual hang out. I swear to god when I walked in there that I was in a grunge video shoot. Can you tell I dont get out much. Oh that and the carpet is spungy sticky underfoot.
This guy gets the award for the best rock star hair. I just cannot imagine a guy spending hours getting his hair looking like that with all the spikes heading in the right direction. North as the case maybe. Compass head. Dan you aughta employ this guy as a personal gps tracking assistant. I'd hang with this guy if I were lost , at least I'd always know which way north was. I was wondering for a bit while staring in awe at him if he had had a colission with a skunk and a porcupine, ok that's mean I know but really!!! look at all the stripes !!! I'm pretty sure that his get up is totally intentional. Everything is all lined up (pardon the pun) very geometric !!!
And then theres the piece de resistance. Actually it was funny quip from john. He runs up to me while Im out side avoiding having to listen to prince and having a smoke. And he spouts off. "i'm going to kill some guy, you know how packed it is in there?!! I was trying to get out through the crowd and I stepped on some guys foot and he says to me below his breath but loud enough so I could hear it " dude that was my foot , I'm wearing sandals!" hahahaha what kind of idiot wears sandals to a crowded night club like zaphods and complains that his foot was stepped on?!!
Now whats funny about this is the manner in which john describes this event to me Quote" Ok lets look at the plan view ( did I mention john is an engineer) I laughed but he wasnt having any of it he really wanted to give me the plan view of the events as they unfolded"
At one point john dissapeared from the radar. Gill in her alcohol fueled state freaked and yelped OH MY GOD WHERE'S JOHN!!! Being the good shepherd that I am I had my eyes on these knuckle heads making sure they werent in all kinds of trouble. So I point to the other side of the bar.
So the night went on in that kind of crazy vein the three of them had consumed 6 too many Jager bombs each!! (I say the three of them Because chantal(e)? wasn't drinking either , she was dans DD- such a good wife you have dan !!!) I would have fed you to the wolves long ago hahahaha. Though I confess I was doing the DD thing myself. Gill is a ranting lunatic when she drinks but gotta love her other ummm how do we say it "other fine qualities"
So to top off the night here is one final pic which really speaks volumes for the how the evening went. I was trying to get a nice shot of dan and his wife chantale, Because well as you've probabbling noticed I really only have one other picture of her and dan and the rest shes strangly absent from them. Feast your eyes on this One John... you're looking really good dude. I should really send this one to your boss. I'm sure you'd never hear the end of it.

It actually co-incides with gay pride day the parade kick off was last night. SO that would make the parade today.

From what gill says Nelson and Colin are going to be on a float? Ok I stand corrected the parade is next week. And They've been asked to be at the front of the parade.

Sad really that there's such a stigma and over blown over politicized view of the gay community. Nelson and Colin are great people!!!

Ok so this morning i woke up a little late its already 7 am and im still not ready to go. gill is just drying her hair, aidan is just getting up to. nice way to start the morning isnt it. Gonna be late for today. Oh well. So here I sit slurping on a java and I look at my coffee cup.

Heat wave is done !! Finally

Finally the heat has let up!!
I actually had to wear a sweater last night. Weird I know but i was chilly.
You're going to hate me for saying this but I think that Fall is on its way!
I love the fall!!. I love the summer too ,don't get me wrong, but the humidity is just aweful. Really it is. Everything and everybody sweats. Tempers flare. Its just bad all around isnt it. I suspect how ever that we're in for another heat wave.
You know there has got to be a place on planet earth where the weather is a constant 18-25 degrees. How did you deal with the heat and humidity?

As promised from a prior posting here's the recipe for our infamous Lemon Bomb Martini
Rim the glass with a piece of Lemon.
Dip the glass in Sugar.
2 lemons squeezed (freshly)
2 Shots of vodka
2 tablespoons of sugar.

Mine is pink because my gilfriend is playing with my head.

It should be yellow!!

Ottawa Busker Festival August 2006

The Busker festival is in Ottawa this long weekend. It's Colonel by day apparently.

Good enough reason for a holiday I suppose!! Theres a wide array of performers from all over the planet performing their tricks and acts for the public on the Sparks Street mall here in Ottawa.

The guy on the left there is from San francisco California !! Pretty cool huh!!! I cant say I caught his name, though he was pretty good !!!

This pair of acrobats are from Japan! They performed a great act of balance and shows of strength.

You can't tell from the photo here but the tiny little japanese girl perched perilously on top of her counter parts hands is just cut muscle and sinew.

They also did this awesome rope twirling act with balls on the end of the rope as well as using some kids shoes from the audience. Nothing like audience particip-action. I'll post the majority of the photos to my Flickr account. For your viewing pleasure. Oh there some other gems in there. Last I checked. Ok back to the show !!!

SO there I was, just minding my own business in the pool when all of a sudden WHAMMO I'm getting hauled out on a stretcher spinal (tap) back board and getting first aid by some pool dudes and dudettes. Who would have known!!!

No seriously. They were doing a drill and happened to pick me as the victim for their pool clearing and first aid excercise. Was fun ... sort of.

See the story goes like this. I was sunning myself with my girlfriend. (wish I were drinking lemon drop martini's, I'll get the recipe and for a future posting) And two of the lifeguards approach me to ask if I would like to participate in a drill (cute but way young).
Simple enough and I'm always willing to help out!! Hey I'm a canuck its what we do, I was instructed to go dive off of the diving board at 3:10 pm. and play dead in the pool. Umm ok play dead in water? hahahaha ok Im a dork and agreed to this.
So thats what I did. Dove off of the board and started "floating" face down.
While Im doing this I'm hoping all the guards are in on this shenanigan. NOT. I freeking flaundered there as long as I could hold my breath for then came up for air a few times. It wasn't until my girlfriend yelped "LIFE GAURD" that they jumped into action.
Hahahah what a drama I put on though, struggling for air and slapping at the water.
Was all in good fun and it was a helpful drill for them. Next time ? maybe not though...

Not off to the cottage

Not off to the cottage this weekend, unfortunately. We got stuck in town for the long weekend this time 'round. However we did get to go check out the busker festival here in ottawa too bad I was an idiot and didnt get any pictures of the Japanese Samurai busker dude. "its AMAZING" was his coined phrase with a heavy Japanese accent of course.

So it looks like were heading off to the local community pool with the Monster.

It always makes for an interesting time. He has a flare for the ladies. (atta boy) You'll always find him floating about near a hottie. G/f is gonna hate me for writing this but it is TRUE.

Right at the moment we're sitting for a friend of ours (another 5 yr old boy and his sister) so its freaking insane here at the moment. Thank god we're getting them out of the house this afternoon or I'd wind up hiding the store room behind our winter tires. With a case of beer for good measure.

Well we're out for the afternoon. Have a great long weekend everyone.!!

What did you think you were buying? Its not rocket science people. Theres nothing nutritional in water. Theres no hidden chemicals that'll turn your skin green or cause you to foam at the mouth like a rabid dog. It's water W-A-T-E-R water
Actually I went and looked in our fridge to see if a bottle of woody's cooler we have in there had a label like this. Much to my surprise (not really) there wasn't one.

Holy crap.. I just found out Mega Deth is still alive and on tour here in canada. Strange first post i know but really that is weird
